It features a black composite/molded tube, 16-gauge powder-coated steel heat shield, trim sealed to seal out hot engine air, and a custom aFe brand cotton filter. aFe has reported gains of up to 25 hp and 25 lb/ft of torque when used on an M 3. For maximum benefit, we recommend upgrading your engine software — a Conforti chip for 1992-1995 or Shark Injector software for 1996-1999 cars. This aFe intake kit fits all 1992-1999 E3 6 chassis 3 series 6 cylinder, including: 1992-1995 – BMW 325i, 325is & M 3 3.0 liter 1996-1998 – BMW 328i, 328is, 323is and M 3 3.2 liter. 1999-1999 – BMW 328is, 323is, and M 3 3.2 liter This version used aFe’s highest flowing filter media, which uses a lightly oil gauze to filter out dirt and particulates, while allowing more air to flow to the intake. For the best flowing filter, with the best performance gain, we always recommend this standard aFe filter media (often called “Pro5R” , which has a blue pre-oiled filter media). We also carry this filter in the “ProDry” grey filter media, which is oil- for only slightly less performance and no maintenance.
