These are two of America’s most wanted and we are not talking about 2Pac and Snoop Dogg. This is a race between the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the Mustang Shelby GT350.
To put it simply, the Challenger is the ultimate expression of a modern muscle car, while the Shelby is the ultimate expression of a modern muscle car which is actually modern and can take some serious corners.
On paper, these twos are far apart – the 6,2 supercharged V8 in the Hellcat gives 707hp out while the Shelby goes to the battlefield with the 5,2 V8 with a flat plane crank and some insane exhausts. Also, the Shelby has probably the most sophisticated and most amazing suspension ever fitted to something bearing a designation of a muscle car. So, seeing these two in a race is quite a sight.
While the GT350 certainly has a growl no other modern muscle car can follow, the Challenger has the power. We will not reveal the outcome of this vulgar race but bear in mind that the guy in the Challenger was short shifting during one of the races. True, the Hellcat has so much power that the wheelspin could be an inevitable consequence, so short shift could trick it, but it also slows a car if it’s not done right, at the right speed and at the right time. Nevertheless, volume up the speakers and enjoy the massive ‘Merican fight of cars who define all the greatness of the American car industry.
